Portraits, Masks, and the Little Things
My two 8th grade classes were posed with a few challenges this year, finding intrigue and meaning in the little things that surrounded them at home, exploring how they saw themselves in self portraits, and finally the idea of a mask. The mask project focused on how a mask can transform, reveal and often conceal our true identities.
With each project students are asked to question their environments, and discover them as if for the first time. This same philosophy is also applied to the portrait, how can we view ourselves in a vulnerable never before seen way in front of the camera. How can we explore and experiment and in the process create images that are revelatory and truthful. - Mr. Attie
