Comforts and Sanctuaries
A Tierra Del Sol Group Exhibition
Curated by The Eastern Star Gallery Team
On view Oct. 9th - Nov. 8th, 2024
The Eastern Star Gallery is proud to present Comforts and Sanctuaries, featuring the work of Tierra Del Sol artists. Archer gallery students have been working with the organization, Tierra Del Sol since last year on this group show, creating the title Comforts and Sanctuaries and curating the work of many different artists. Last year, students visited the Tierra Del Sol Gallery in West Hollywood and met with the gallery director, Paige Wery, in preparation for this exhibition.
The theme, Comfort and Sanctuaries, is based on our surroundings, connecting the fact that every piece is made from a place of authenticity. Untitled (3) by Victor Rivera shows a clear representation of that comfort through imagination by utilizing bright markers and colored pencil to make a surreal image of a pirate ship sailing across a dark sea surrounded by sea monsters. Upon walking into the gallery, you’re hit with many representations of nature in various media, such as Jackie Marsh’s The Bright Sun and Julia Hagen-Brenner’s Butterfly on a Sunny Day. Two of Emily Nguyen’s comfort food ceramic works are featured, Tomato Soup and Grilled Cheese and Churros . One large wall features many different visually enticing pieces incorporating American Sign Language, each piece demonstrating the creators' individual view of sanctuaries.
Tierra Del Sol is an organization that supports people with disabilities through creative pathways to employment, education, and the arts. Comforts and Sanctuaries opens on October 9th, 2024, and will be on view until November 8th, 2024. We welcome you to join us for the opening celebration on October 9th from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Hors d’oeuvres will be provided. Families and friends of the Archer Community are invited to attend!
